Olwen Jones L.W.C.M.D. Perf. Diploma

Olwen was brought up in Llanbedrgoch, a small village, on the Isle of Anglesey. A former student at Llangefni Secondary school, she later studied Piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff where she gained her Diploma in Music. From a young age, she was a keen competitor at various Eisteddfodau throughout Wales where she won many prizes for solo piano playing.

Olwen regularly accompanies at the Annual Urdd National Eisteddfod, the National Eisteddfod of Wales and local Eisteddfodau. Many eminent soloists have requested her services as their accompanist.

She was invited to become deputy accompanist to Cantorion Colin Jones at the choir’s inception in 1991 and has since accompanied the choir at its many concerts, home and abroad.

Her appointment as Accompanist followed and she has proved to be a very dedicated member of Cantorion, also helping review with John, music and items thought suitable for inclusion in the Choir repertoire. In addition, Olwen composes and makes her own arrangements of music for choirs and soloists. Her composition of ‘Emyn Hwyrol’ can be heard on the choir’s latest CD.

A full time teacher at Ysgol y Parc, Holyhead, Olwen is extremely busy accompanying two other choirs as well as finding time to teach piano privately at home during the evenings.
